Queen victoria family tree ww14/11/2024 ![]() ![]() Prior to the conflict, uncovered friendly correspondence between the Russian and German sovereigns interestingly discuss looming war with one another. George V of England, Nicholas II of Russia (who bear a striking resemblance to one another), and Wilhelm II of Germany all shared a grandmother in Queen Victoria. World War One (1914-1918) Left to right: King George V of England, Tzar Nicholas II of Russia, and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, via wikipediaĪt the outbreak of World War One in 1914, the three greatest powers in Europe were Britain, Russia, and Germany. Queen Victoria and Family at Coburg by Eduard Ulenhuth, 1894, via Royal Collection Trust For this reason, the House of Hanover died with Victoria even though her bloodline lived on. The children of the pair took the name of the house of their father over their mother. As an adept polyglot, Queen Victoria was regularly overheard speaking to her husband Albert privately in German. The queen allegedly spoke English with a slight German accent in childhood, requiring private tutoring to purge her English of her German accent. Having a German mother and governess, German was likely Victoria’s mother tongue. Originating in Bavaria, Germany, Albert’s family consistently served the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg prior to his marrying into the British Royal Family. Prince Albert descended from the extensive ducal House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Queen Victoria descended from the House of Hanover – a German family in origin that had sat on the British throne since its first ruler George I of Britain (who spoke no English) in 1714. Victoria and Albert descended from related royal families. Both plasma-based (from blood) factor concentrates and recombinant factor concentrates are explained in The Treatment Chapter.Queen Victoria And Albert: Nuclear Family In Britain Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in a re-enactment of their wedding ceremony, 1854, via The newest forms are not made from blood but are manufactured using recombinant technology produced in human or mammalian cell lines. The first factor concentrates were all made from human blood. Factor concentrates have made it possible for people to treat their bleeds anywhere, so they can lead more normal lives. With factor concentrates, people with hemophilia could be treated more quickly than ever before. Clotting factor could be freeze-dried into a powder that is easy to store, carry, and take. The greatest breakthrough in hemophilia treatment, however, was the development of f actor concentrates. Cryoprecipitate was the best way of stopping hemophilia bleeds ever seen. Judith Graham Pool discovered a process of freezing and thawing plasma to get a layer of factor-rich plasma ( cryoprecipitate). In 1930, scientists learned how to separate blood into its major parts, plasma and red cells. This made blood transfusions much more successful. Around 1900, scientists found that human blood could be divided into groups or types. Hemophilia research has come a long way since the early descriptions. The fascinating story of this royal family is told in the book Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert Massie (the father of a son with hemophilia). The young man Alexis was treated for bleeds by the mysterious Rasputin, known as a “holy” man with the power to heal. Their son, born in 1904 and named Alexis, inherited hemophilia from his mother. ![]() Alix became Empress Alexandra at her marriage to Russia's Czar Nicholas in 1894. Of her children, one son, Leopold, had hemophilia B, and two daughters, Alice and Beatrice, were carriers. Queen Victoria's gene for hemophilia was likely caused by spontaneous mutation. This is because the hemophilia gene was passed from Queen Victoria (hemophilia B carrier), who became Queen of England in 1837, to the ruling families of Russia, Spain, and Germany. Hemophilia has been called a "royal disease". They were given Roman numeral names in 1961 to avoid confusion. Eleven other blood factors were recognized in the 1950s. Conrad Otto who described an inherited bleeding condition affecting males who he called “bleeder.” It was not until just before World War II that doctors learned that hemophilia A was caused by a problem with a protein in the blood, later called factor VIII. Concrete blocks4/11/2024 ![]() Also, you want to coat the entire block (inside and bottom included) for best results. ![]() Just be sure they are nice and clean, use a masonry primer first followed by masonry paint in several coats. If you want to change the color or look of the cement blocks or make them waterproof, you can paint them easily. That’s why you want to make sure the wood that you use that is touching the cinder blocks is naturally moisture-resistant wood, like cedar, pressure-treated, or has been sealed. But keep in mind that cement is a porous material, so it will retain some moisture which is okay. You can totally use the cinder blocks as is without painting or sealing them. □ Do you need to paint or do anything to the cement blocks first? I also liked that it was gray because if it accidentally squeezed out the side, it wasn’t noticeable – which may or may not have happened on our bench. The product is made for both indoors and outdoors and can even be used on wet or damp surfaces, which is nice because cement blocks can hold extra moisture. It has a 20-minute working time so you can slightly shift the cinder blocks around to square them up as needed. It’s a two-component epoxy product that has a nozzle that mixes it up as you squeeze it out, so you don’t have to worry about messy mixing. We used DAP’s All Purpose Adhesive & Filler and it worked like a charm. Much better to be safe than sorry and it doesn’t add a lot of extra time or cost to the project! What should I use to glue cinder blocks together on a concrete block bench? To avoid that, I would recommend gluing the concrete blocks together for your bench. ![]() But when we have kids and wild dogs, I can just imagine the bench getting bumped by 2 playing dogs or kiddo (or kid-at-heart adult) jumping up onto the bench and having it topple over. ![]() Once the cinder blocks are set into place, truth be told – they are pretty secure because they are so heavy. Do you need to glue together concrete blocks on the bench? If you wanted to save a few bucks, you could probably get away with using two 2x4s stacked next to each other, but they wouldn’t be as strong as 4x4s. The holes on the inside of the cinder blocks are roughly 5 inches by 5 inches, so 4×4 pieces of wood seem like the best choice. What size of wood should you use on cinder block benches? Just be sure you use exterior paint! We’ve also had great results with this exterior stain and sealer on our firewood storage rack. We’ve also used boiled linseed oil on outdoor wood projects, like this DIY deck box, which barely changes the color but will protect the wood from sun and water. Wood stain or paint will help prevent the wood from aging naturally and keep it looking good for longer! Here are some outdoor wood painting tips if you decide to go that route. Sealed or painted wood – Another option is to stain & seal or paint the wood you are using on your cinder block bench.Pressure-treated wood will generally be cheaper than cedar lumber. This type of wood is usually recommended for anything that makes ground contact outdoors. Pressure-treated wood – Another option for outdoor wood projects is pressure-treated wood, which has gone through a process of coating the wood with preservatives to help prevent decay and rot.Think of how a wood fence grays over time. These types of woods will age naturally if left unstained, unsealed, and unpainted. Redwood or teak are other options for outdoor projects. Cedar is also easy to find at home improvement stores. It’s a sturdy wood that can handle the outdoors without rotting. Naturally moisture-resistant wood, like cedar – When it comes to building outdoor wood projects, like raised garden beds or outdoor fences, we almost always go with cedar.Since it is a project made for your outdoor area, you need to keep moisture in mind for the wood planks. You have a few options for the type of wood used on your cinder block bench. I was seriously shocked when it came time to build the cinder block bench because it was so stinking easy! It’s a great way to create extra seating in your outdoor space on a budget! This great DIY project can be done in less than an hour! What type of wood should you use on a DIY cinder block bench? It also opens up the seating on the paver patio and spreads things out a bit, which is great when you have a larger group of people. Not only does this give us some extra seating, but it is a good spot for people to sit away from the fire if it is going and they don’t want to be right next to it. I could build a concrete block bench and put it in the open spot under our vertical plant wall along the edge of the house. Death and return of superman snes cheats4/11/2024 ![]() Blizzard's Warcraft II and Electronic Arts' Command & Conquer would lead the real-time strategy race (which is all high school kids want to play, apparently) and lead to many 'lost' Friday and Saturday nights playing against friends on your dial-up modem from home. While Orcs and Humans didn't make a big splash (at least among my high school social circle), it was the following year's Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness that all of my peers would talk about for years to come. ![]() Blizzard was responsible for releasing Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, a real-time strategy game for the PC and Mac, in 1994. If you were an avid PC gamer in the 90s, Blizzard would mean *something* to you. this game was created by Blizzard Entertainment. ![]() That's all I really remember, so I'm going into this with a relatively blank slate. I didn't own a SNES console - I would've played it at my friend Jeremie's house. I seem to recall playing this when it first came out, but I might be mistaken. I would've been thirteen years old when this game came out, and probably in junior high or my first year of high school. Defunct Games gives us a really nice snapshot of what was happening in the gaming industry during the summer of The Death and Return of Superman's release. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the SNES were both released several months later, and, personally, I know which of these games I would've been saving my money for at this time in my life. (So, there were no major spoilers in this game.) This game was sandwiched between the releases of Capcom's Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers and Acclaim's Spider and Venom: Maximum Carnage (also for the SNES and Sega Genesis) and both of them seemed to have more revenue for marketing, so I'm not surprised if this game got overlooked by a large majority of console players. The Death and Return of Superman console game was advertised in the summer of 1994, well after the entire comic book story line had resolved itself. I'll be playing the SNES version and I'll be reviewing this game as a comic book fan and a gamer. Keeping that in mind, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to revisit 1994's The Death and Return of Superman game from Sunsoft, Inc released for the Super Nintendo AND Sega Genesis. I mean, I get the overall gist of it - but some of the minutiae details are lost on me. I have a very vague memory of the Death of Superman, Funeral for a Friend, Reign of the Supermen! and The Return of Superman story lines. This has renewed my interest in the entire epic 90's comic event - which, as I mentioned in a previous post, was the death knell of my hard-core comic book collecting days (having felt that everything 'had been done' after the resolution of that event and nothing would ever surprise me again). It's been a good summer for the 1992 Death and Return of Superman story line, with DC reprinting all four collected editions of the story and various Reign on the Supermen! characters appearing in DC Rebirth titles.
